The Camp

THE ESTANCIA

Nestled in the heart of Santa Cruz, Argentina, Karku Camp offers a truly unique experience in the lap of nature. Our cabin, a refurbished house within an old estancia, awaits your arrival. Conveniently located just 45 minutes from the Río Gallegos Airport, Karku Camp is your gateway to an unforgettable adventure.

A RICH HISTORY

Our story begins with the estancia, a historical gem founded in 1914. This rich heritage is marked by a renowned shearing shed, where high-quality wool and meat have been produced for generations. Here, you'll find a slice of Argentina's pastoral history, steeped in tradition and authenticity.

FISHING PARADISE

One of the most exciting features of Karku Camp is its proximity to the Río Gallegos estuary, which is located within the boundaries of Santa Cruz, Argentina, occupies the southeastern edge of continental Patagonia. It runs from Güer Aike in the west to the point where it flows into the Argentine Sea (Atlantic Ocean) in the east, covering a distance of nearly forty kilometers.

Situated in one of the most privileged areas along the river, our camp opens the door to an angler's paradise. The estancia is set a five-minute-drive from the river, driving dirt tracks across the Patagonian plains is an amazing experience with its unique nature and great wildlife. You might be lucky to encounter guanacos, foxes, armadillos and the hog-nosed skunk (don’t get too close!), and you’ll see plenty of fast running rheas, the South American ostrich, and flocks of flamingos.

For avid anglers, this is a dream come true.Karku's fishermen are granted access to over 40 kilometers of pristine waterways.

This unparalleled stretch of river offers a golden opportunity to catch the elusive sea-run brown trout. Few experiences rival the thrill of casting your line into these waters, where nature's bounty awaits.

After a windy day spent casting lines and reeling in fish by the river, there's no better place than the cozy cabin at our camp, even if there's nothing fancy about it, but for most guests, it’s the perfect base for a week of fishing. We enjoy home cooked meals, beer and wine can be purchased at very fair prices and the highlight of the week is the asado, the Argentinian barbecue, prepared on a fixed outdoor stone grill.

After breakfast, we head to the river for the first fishing session and then take a break during the middle of the day. Lunch is the main meal of the day, and the hearty servings might call for a nap before we head back out for the evening session, to fish the most productive hours.
