Our Season

The prime fly-fishing season on the Río Gallegos runs from late December through April.

Early in the season, anglers encounter bright silver sea trout fresh from the ocean – powerful and trophy-sized, often exceeding 20 pounds.

As the months progress, these fish take on deeper colors and vibrant patterns, remaining equally strong.

January and February are peak months for large, aggressive trout, while March and April bring steady action and high numbers of average-sized fish. You can also find the big ones too, ranging over 12 pounds.

No matter the month, every cast in Patagonia feels like a once-in-a-lifetime moment

A Fisherman’s Paradise

How We Fish the Río Gallegos

Unlike deeper rivers, the Río Gallegos demands finesse – it’s a river that rewards precision and adaptation.

Calm days call for delicate presentations with light tippets and small flies. When the wind rises or the water colors, we adjust with bigger flies and stronger leaders.

Wading is gentle and accessible, making every angler part of the river’s rhythm. Our guides share local knowledge and ensure that every pool becomes a moment of learning and reward.

Adaptation is the key to success on the Río Gallegos – and that’s what makes it so addictive.

Fishing Conditions & Tips

Success on the Río Gallegos comes from experience, observation, and respect for the river.
Keep these simple guidelines in mind for a rewarding week on the water.

Our guides have condensed years of experience into these simple yet powerful tips.
