Our Story

The Estancia

Located in the vast plains of Santa Cruz, Argentina, Karku Camp sits within a century-old estancia founded in 1914 — a place where Patagonia’s history and wilderness coexist.
Once a traditional sheep farm, today it offers guests a warm cabin and a glimpse into Argentina’s pastoral life.

The lodge blends rustic charm and comfort, surrounded by open skies and unforgettable landscapes.

Today, Karku Camp blends the heritage of the Patagonian estancia with the comfort and warmth of a modern fly fishing lodge.

A Fisherman’s Paradise

Fishing Paradise

Our camp lies near the Río Gallegos estuary — one of the most iconic fly fishing destinations in Patagonia. As the first lodge located near Güer Aike and the estuary, we have the advantage of catching the first runs of the sea-run brown trouts. The lodge is just a five-minute drive from the river, where you’ll spot guanacos, flamingos, foxes, and rheas along the way.

With exclusive access, Karku guests enjoy some of the most rewarding fishing in the southern hemisphere. Whether you’re chasing trophy sea-run brown trout or simply soaking in Patagonia’s silence, Karku Camp offers one of South America’s most exclusive fly-fishing experiences.

For those with an eye for discovery, the surrounding area is rich in natural history. Keen observers might find ancient arrowheads or, if lucky, some boleadoras—stone tools tied with leather used for hunting. Please remember, if you discover any objects of archaeological or paleontological interest, you are welcome to take photos, but collecting or taking objects home is not permitted.

Life at the lodge

Life at Karku Camp

After a day on the river, relax by the fire and enjoy a home-cooked meal.
Beer and wine are available at fair prices, and the highlight of the week is our traditional Argentine asado — grilled outdoors over stone and flame.

At Karku Camp, comfort meets simplicity — the perfect base for a week of fishing, good food, and new friendships.

Here, simplicity becomes luxury — good food, good stories, and good company by the river.
