the River
Meets the Sky
The Gallegos River is a low-gradient, meandering waterway that begins at the confluence of the Rubens and Penitentes Rivers, stretching approximately 112 miles before flowing into the Atlantic Ocean. Renowned worldwide as a premier Brown Trout fishery, the Gallegos attracts anglers from all corners of the globe seeking the thrill of catching these powerful and often trophy-sized trout, frequently exceeding 20 pounds.
At Karku, we fish in more than 40 carefully selected, named pools along the river, each offering unique challenges and rewarding possibilities for fly anglers.
With its ever-changing light, shifting winds, and untouched Patagonian landscape, the Gallegos is more than a river — it’s a living classroom for fly fishers. Every bend presents a new lesson in reading the stream, mastering the cast, and connecting with nature in its purest form.
From Passion to Purpose: Our Story
Karku means “the other side of the river” in the ancient Tehuelche language — a tribute to Patagonia’s native people.
Founded by Sergio and Luisa, Karku Fly Fishing grew from a tent by the river into an eco-friendly lodge that welcomes anglers from around the world.
With over 40 km of waters and personalized service, we offer an authentic Patagonian adventure where nature, fishing, and friendship flow together.

What Our Guests Say
Every season, anglers from around the world visit Karku Camp to experience Patagonia’s wild beauty and unforgettable fishing.
Here’s what some of them have shared about their time with us.
My trip to Karku Lodge was absolutely fantastic. The whole crew was very helpful and the guides made every possible effort to make you catch your seatrout. The lodge has some good pools very close to the sea, which could be an advantage in the early season (December). Furthermore, the food is delicious and the nature in Patagonia is just awesome. Athough flyfishing in Patagonia is not a bargain Karku lodge offers good value for money and it is still cheaper than similar lodges in Patagonia
“Karku Camp is a hidden gem. The lodge feels like home, the food is amazing, and the fishing on the Río Gallegos is world-class. I’ll definitely be back.”
“It’s rare to find a place that combines comfort, solitude, and great fishing. Sergio and Luisa make you feel like part of the family.”
